LGBTIQ Diversity Training

The Case for LGBTIQ Training

Canada and Ontario offers many protections under the law for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Intersex and Questioning individuals, employees and consumers. Not understanding this can put your business or organization at a disadvantage. The reality is that between 6-8% of the Canadian population self identifies as Gay or Lesbian or nearly 3 million Canadians. In Windsor Essex the LGBTIQ population is estimated between 10,000 and 14,000 persons. They are represented in all age, income, racial and religious and ethnocultural groups. To a large extent they are an invisible minority. There is great diversity with in the LGBTIQ community. There are some myths about gay and lesbian stereotypes

By providing LGBTIQ diversity training to your staff, you are not only demonstrating your  commitment to those you serve, but models your determination to create an inclusive workplace for your staff.

The LGBTIQ Training Workshops

How do you create a safe workplace? When a place advertises they are a gay-friendly business or organization what do they mean? Do your employees and clients feel comfortable in your setting, or do they sense a don't ask, don't tell policy? What do all the letters mean in the title LGBTIQ?

The LGBTIQ Diversity Training workshops are in 2-hour, 3-hour/half day and full day workshop formats. The workshops are lead by trained facilitators. To plan an event we need to understand your needs and your population. Each workshop is customized to target your learning needs. The workshop is interactive and fun.

Participants will take away:
1) a better understanding and appreciation of LGBTIQ issues within the broader context of diversity training;
2) insights into the facts and stereotypes about LGBTIQ people;
3) education regarding the impact of homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism in the workplace;
4) strategies for interacting with all employees and customers that include LGBTIQ community;
