Pride at Work in Windsor

Pride At Work

Windsor Pride Community believes that diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace is important to the social and economic prosperity of our community.  The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Ontario Human Rights Code state that it is illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Unfortunately homophobic bullying and discrimination is still too common in workplaces in Windsor Essex. This discrimination and bullying is illegal. Windsor is falling behind. Fortunately many forward looking leaders in business and the not for profit sectors lead by example and are developing employee resource groups for their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) employees.

In conjunction with International Anti-homophobia Day on May 17th,  WPC  hosts annual educational events for the business and not for profit communities to promote greater understanding of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered employees in the workplace. There is much evidence that cities and workplaces which champion diversity in the workplace are more profitable, grow and have more satisfied clients.

Join us to build a stronger, better trained, educated and forward looking community in Windsor Essex County.

Reputation

  • Build your brand, enhance your reputation for corporate leadership and communicate commitment to LGBT equality and diversity to both clients and staff. Markets savvy companies are already embracing ?the pink dollar? to help drive their business - why not join them?
  • Keep your customers - 74% of gay and 42% of straight consumers are less likely to buy products from organizations that hold negative views of lesbian and gay people.

Recruitment and retention

  • Inclusive work environments encourage loyalty, teamwork and maximize personal contributions, which are key in top performing organizations.
  • Inclusive workplaces become employers of choice in competitive markets, attracting and retaining the best talent.
  • Reduce your staff turnover - 36% of gay employees will change careers in the face of discrimination.

Personal contribution and productivity

  • Retain a motivated workforce - people perform better when they can be themselves.
  • At least 55% of gay employees facing workplace discrimination report that this has a direct, negative impact on their work.
